For a year or more, my spouse has sought me to woodturn a pumpkin. I think this begun with the big fir sphere that I turned 3 years back. She saw that and thought I must make it into a pumpkin. My very first effort at this project was to turn that big fir sphere into a pumpkin and I started down that roadway, however I discovered that the wood of the very first sphere was just too decayed and far gone. I ended up burning that wood. I just recently got some monkey puzzle tree rounds. I cut one of these assemble into pieces I could use to make a smaller pumpkin. I wood turned the pumpkin shape on the lathe. I hollowed out the within the pumpkin. I made the plug at the top of the pumpkin similar to a jack-o-lantern. Connected to the plug is a stem made from cherry wood. I joined the two pieces together with an organic shape eliminated on the CNC device. I then carved away the material of the two glued together pieces and developing the stem and the top of the pumpkin. I sculpted the ribs in the pumpkin with the mill and they in fact turned out extremely good. The pumpkin in the end looks a lot much better than I believed it was going to look, and the plug that suits the top worked out excellent. I was shocked at how well I had the ability to make something that appears like a pumpkin.

It’s funny that with all the amazing things you have made, the times you show the projects gone wrong are the most humanizing and relatable. Exploding lathe pumpkins and wiring the picture frame upside down.
That is a lovely pumpkin. And a lovely video. Thanks, Frank.
That is a very pumpkinny looking wood.
