Every year my better half and I retire our wedding event rings and I make brand-new ones, and for our 11th anniversary I wanted to push myself by making a pair of titanium wedding rings with a hidden "11" inlay made from ebony veneer and titanium accents. Utilizing the xTool MetalFab to cut 6mm titanium plate, I formed, sanded, machined, and polished each ring by hand while explore laser-cutting settings, lead-in lines, and lathe clean-up. This uncommon tradition began as a fun idea however has actually grown into a creative ritual that teaches me something brand-new every year.

Thanks for another great video.
A lot of folks think titanium is some kind of invincible superhero metal, but that’s actually a common misconception. Pure titanium on its own isn’t all that tough — it’s relatively soft, a bit brittle, and nowhere near as strong as its reputation suggests.
The stuff that earns the “space-age super-metal” badge is almost always titanium alloy — titanium mixed with aluminum, vanadium, or other elements that crank the strength, hardness, and heat resistance way up. That’s what they build airplanes and implants out of.
So if this piece felt surprisingly easy to cut and shape, you probably got commercially pure titanium rather than a high-strength Ti-6Al-4V alloy. Thank God because if you’d tried to carve an alloy with your regular tools, you would’ve had a bad day! 😂
A lovely, funny and well crafted video. ❤
So many AWESOME things about this video! A joy to watch. Love the original music always. Really enjoyed the grain video effect when you were using the lathe.
You only have to wear them for 11 more months *if you make the next ones on time*.
Very sweet and cool.
Bonjour, C’est beau ! Quel talent ! 😊😊
My favorite ones yet!
Such a wonderful idea and a beautiful way to build together what you started on your wedding day. You’re both renewing and strengthening those vows and promises.
I also have a tip or two for ease of assembly, gluing, and finishing. There are jewelry making helpers you can get that will hold your work. I use them for other crafts and they are very handy, especially when you need a 3rd or 4th hand. Pun intended.
I also recommend either a jeweler’s loupe, a lighted magnifying lamp, or both. Photographers use loupes, or did when everything was on film. I am thinking you may know this already. I have one from 30 years ago when I shot photos on black and white and developed my own film. Ha.
The handy thing also has a magnifying glass. Oh, and a Dremel helps too.
Beautiful rings! Congratulations on eleven years! 🥳
And David says “I’m either going to have to find an easier way or get a divorce”! LMFAO! 🤣🤣👍👍
These turned out great! You can now always fall back to a ring blank making company😂
