This year's Christmas ornament is a sphere made from a walnut dodecahedron. I have cut an easy Christmas graphic on each of the 12 sides of the dodecahedron. Overlaid on this I included some colored pencils to include some information. For instance, there's a wreath that is a simple donut shaped inlay out of wood and the colored pencils make the bow and the decorations in the wreath. There's an easy gingerbread male shape with colored pencil frosting. The simple graphics on the sphere are made from cherry wood and the sphere itself is made from walnut wood. The sphere turned out bigger than I had anticipated so it's truly a little bit huge for holding on a Christmas tree.

You have amazing skills…thanks for sharing! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Time for Frankβs annual ornament that is once again too heavy to hang on the tree! π
edit: I made this comment before I got to the end of the video
He should make a ornament holder in the shape of a Christmas tree to display all the ornaments he has made over the years.
@Nathan best The re-usable stick- or board-tree to lego- or dovetail together recurrently that could replace the annual throw-away christmas fir. I made those in different sizes some decades ago and gave those away in the family and to friends, but people generally found it “not the real thing” enough to actually abstain from fir and spruce. There’s probably not any more conservative time during the year than christmas and newyear no matter how “progressive” people seem to be all the other weeks π
Merry Christmas to Frank and your Family.
Time to make some Christmas bowling pins next year! They’d make quite a set! π
The kids have gotten to that age that they think “Dad is weird” and don’t want to participate.. We all as fathers go through the same thing. A few more years and they will be begging to be in your videos again.. Merry Christmas Frank and family!
Very true. And we were kids once as well!
What’s really funny, is that those same kids start doing it again about 10-15 years later or so, haha
you are absolutely right!!! They will do it!!!
So, anyway merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Love the fact that you included the large bandsaw segment where you didn’t feel like it was safe. Trust your instincts and there’s almost always another way to do it. Merry Christmas Frank!
I was thinking that Frank could put the ball in the lathe cup and slide that across the bandsaw table as a safe way to hold it.

Love these videos. Might be fun to intentionally make the corners too thin and cur through them leaving a lacy pattern … would mean also finishing the inside and the interrupted cut may be sketchy … but would look really cool.

Wow look at that amazing Spalting on the wood you used for making the custom sled. Great work as always. You need to build a stronger wood tree to display all your Xmas Balls on.

Seems like it wouldn’t be too tough to set up a CAD model that would help calculate the needed wood thickness to come up with a sphere of a specific size without having to worry about cutting out the corners.
