I've made a bowl with spikes on the outside. I utilized the information that I utilize on my carvers mallets to connect the spikes to the bowl. This requires sculpting a radial joint on the CNC device. Half the joint is on completion of a piece of walnut and the other half on the cherry bowl. The 2 pieces are glued together. This bowl has 15 spikes. When the two parts are glued together, I then need to carve the walnut and the cherry to expose the pattern in the joint between the 2 pieces. I actually like how it turned out. It's a simple round bowl on the inside and a very spiky, pointy surface on the outside.

Howdy from Scotland!
Those first few seconds had me thinking you’d go on with “now let’s make a bowl with spikes on the inside”
Youβre giving his ideas
Wow those stop motion segments must have taken forever! I wonder which took longer between that and the actual piece.
Amazing Frank
Looks very cool! It would be aseome as well to see the joints on the inside of the bowl. As a patern.
Conker shell bowl. Gorgeous
Museum worthy. Thanks Frank
You have incredible ideas and skills…πππ
Incredible work Frank!
The new range of Norse God helmets are coming along nicely.
Looks good β€. Glad you survived the accident π
Scary on that catch. Happened to me on a cherry bowl. Days later I finally found that chunk on top of a row of clamps about 7 feet off the floor. Never saw it… Love all your wild creations BTW.
This one feels much more spiky than the earlier one which felt more like udders than spikes.
Both are beautiful and thank you for sharing these with us!
Creating the joints like that to expose them when carved really does add to the spikes and makes them feel connected to the bowl. Seriously so cool and impressive
There is not one day that I am not astonished with your work creating stunning pieces of art. ππ»ππ»ππ»ππ»ππ»ππ»
As a long time viewer Its exciting to see bowls you turned in 2018 finally getting used for projects in 2024.
I love that Homer’s “bed goes up” and “bed goes down” have become a running gag on the CNC. Puts a smile on my face every time. π
The bowl looks awesome. I like the more organic looking bowl rim you mention at the end. It fits the randomly placed spikes very well in my opinion.
Amazing work, Frank! It turned out lovely! π
Stay safe there with your family! ππ
Another AMAZING Mastercrafted Design By Frank !!!! Wonderful work!
FRANK!!! I found you again after 7 years, I watched a lot of your wood turning videos back then and I finally recently got a small lathe
