Making a phony window utilizing three 50-inch TVs and standard tools. I start by putting the Televisions together on a plywood base and drill holes according to the TVs' installing screw areas. To hold the TVs, I build a frame from Baltic birch plywood, enhanced with butt joints and pocket hole screws. The main plywood piece is inserted into the frame through rabbets that I cut using a track saw. I use a French cleat system to wall-mount and include drapes for a window effect. I also created a box to hide all the circuitry and electronic devices. Lastly, I utilize a video wall controller to make the 3 vertical TVs work as one. This develops a reasonable window that brings the illusion of the outdoors into the space.

  1. Привет! Очень оживляет атмосферу в глухих комнатах без окон. Спасибо!

    1. When he said ‘baltic birch’ I thought, “Oh man here we go. What’s next? The gold chains and Rolex?”

Go back to that scene in Pulp Fiction when The Wolfe asks Jimmy “If he’s an ‘oak man'” when offering to buy him a new bedroom set. If I were Jimmy, I would have said, “I’m more of a 13-ply guy.” I bet The Wolfe would have told him to not get too carried away with his generosity.

  2. Awesome job. I didn’t realize I needed one of these till now… Thanks for the new project😂

  3. Your attitude makes me smile Dave. I’m very happy that your leaning into making these videos with that spirit. Thank you.

  4. This is such a cool project, David. I heard about this project on the podcast and couldn’t wait to see it

  5. As an AV industry vet, I’d point out that, technically, you should buy TVs that specifically state they’re designed to be hung in portrait orientation. If not, they’re much more prone to overheat and you’re voiding the warranty. But that would probably at least triple the cost of your project. Awesome build!

    1. Wait.. can you elaborate? Why would orientation change the fan? Just from rising heat?

    2. @Anthony LoPrimo as someone who just has access to google, I’d point out that, there’s nothing online to substantiate the claim that mounting any tv vertically will make it more prone to overheat lol

    3. @Jackson Alesnayou don’t need google, just knowledge in thermal dynamics. If the vents are at the top of the TV then it may not vent properly. BTW your google kung fu is pretty weak considering I found several provisos as the OP outlined.

      > your google kung fu is pretty weak
I read this in a hack-fu badly lip-synced movie style

  6. My favorite game is guessing what movie/tv show David is watching while building.

Awesome build! I was excited to see if after it was teased on the Making It podcast.

  7. Thank you for continuing build videos. Many others have given in to the affiliate link and sponsor game.

  8. This is such a cool build and i find seeing how your transforming your shop into what you want is inapiring. My shop is very utilitarian but as i have been adding more desorative elements its made it a lot more enjoyable.

  9. Sweet build! I built a desk/table with a similar monitor setup but I did a small mullion in between to cover logos and the gap. Then fortunately had a pc with a proper graphics card to avoid the output matrix fight. As always great work!

  10. I wonder if something like dakboard could be used with multiple monitors? I know they run on raspberry pi but they only have 2 hdmi outputs so that could limit the capabilities. Awesome project!

  11. Love this! You could add some wooden slats down the frame to hide the bezels and make it look more like a multi pane window.

  12. It’s pretty much becoming cheaper to cover your walls with TVs rather painting them 😂

Great project David. I’ll keep saying it you could make anything and I’ll watch it your channel has always been personality’s based. We are here for you.

  13. 7:38 when I built French cleat cabinets into a van, so many people told me they were just going to slide around while we drove. Thanks Dave for demonstrating in this moment why they never did.

    Awesome project bud. Super fun!
