  1. Thank you for including your “I messed up, now let me figure this out. Nope, that won’t work, let me try this” moments because I feel like every time I try to make something I have at least one of those moments. Glad to know that it isn’t due to my inexperience. It is comforting knowing that mistakes happen to the even best of you.

    1. Yeah, agreed. Those “messed up, but figured out how to fix it” moments are a great way to learn.

    2. @@SteveRamseyquestion, or maybe a statement; since you are drilling those holes 1/2 way through the posts, couldn’t you drill just a bit past 1/2 way on the same plane. The screws would miss each other and just be adjacent if you did so? Since the screw heads would clear the other hole coming in at 90 degrees, it would solve the issue in a fresh project. Obviously, you could have done the same here if you plugged the holes instead. You could then add a contrasting wood plug and it would be at the same height adding it as a design element?

  2. Very nice planter box Steve even if it took you a while to figure it all out! Reminds me of my own antics in the shop! 🤔🤔

  3. This was such a great video, and the cuts of you actively problem solving was very good. I’ve always appreciated your realistic and honest approach to everything you do. This was a fun project that might help me out in a few years when i start to build out a raised garden in earnest.

  4. Great, yes I also appreciate the authenticity Steve – you could have made a small chair!

  5. One of the few things I miss about CA is the price and availability of redwood. Now I want to make a road trip with the truck.
I love the floating slat construction, and showing the opps we all experience!

  6. Really beautiful work, Steve! It looks fantastic! 😃
I’d just make a hole in the center of the central board, for water drainage.
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

  7. Not sure why there are so many naysayers in the comments to this video. The project can be easily adapted to one’s own circumstances and preferences. Thanks for all you’ve posted over these many years. Thumbs up.

  8. I look forward to seeing your videos and I really appreciate how you show not only mistakes but how you deal with them. All the best to you Steve!

  9. Thanks for including what most DIY youtubers omit from their “oops” moments: the actual thought process of reaching a fix. Many will at least include their “oops” moments, and sometimes even their failed fixes. But the valuable learning really comes from seeing another person’s thought process and their approach to problem solving, rather than their solutions.
