I wished to make a video to share my approach for using lacquer (to horizontal surfaces) by utilizing aggressive, thick coats instead of the "several light coats" the guidelines of the cans inform us. I have actually been getting excellent strong, long lasting results and saving a lot energy and time.

Thanks for the updated video. I remember you had a video like this years ago and I’ve been doing this for my projects that have spray lacquer finish. Great results.
You’re welcome! It’s nice to see some techniques endure the test of time.
bro the “here’s my technique so you can bail” instinct is THE GREATEST. such a wonderful, chill channel. 💚
Haha, thanks. I hate having to sit through a long preamble when watching videos.
I was just thinking this weekend, “I miss Steve Ramsey videos.” This was a great surprise and very helpful! Your videos (for me, at least) tend to be very grounding and remind me that it’s OK to experiment and play around instead of chasing absolute perfection every time I’m in the shop, so thank you.
😁 Oh yaay, a WWMM video. Feels like nostalgia to be honest! ☺
Don’t even care what it’s about, just glad for a video. 🙌
I watched some of your old lockout woodworking videos recently. I think it’s time for a five year update on those planter boxes you said would last five years. Also love the return of the old school music
Oh yeah! Those things still look great. I think they should last another five years! I just went outside and took a pic: https://photos.app.goo.gl/8EQQ6mhmBQbpMjiP8
Last night I finished a small project and wanted to spray lacquer it, but hadn’t used that finish in a while. Went back to your Weekend Woodworker course and watched the section of the Extra Fancy Paper Tray build that talks about finishing and your very old video on finishing. Should have waited 12 hours for this video. Thanks for the update!
Such a pleasant surprise! Thanks for the great tip. For years I had shied away from lacquer, because, minwax. Last year someone recommended delf, and it was game changing for finishing my tables!!
BTW, the only place I can find it here in Idaho, is at ace hardware.
NIce– With your tips, I just finished a bathroom storage cabinet I constructed for our house renovations. Used water based polyurethane but as the final step rubbed down with the brown paper ‘trick’. That really made the satin poly shine. Will be trying the spray lacquer now on other projects.after watching this video.
Steeeeve….. how are ya doing bud? Been watching for literally YEARS and I’m so happy I found you 😂
Really excellent tip, Steve! Thanks a bunch! 😃
It’s great to see you back!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Perfect timing. I have to finish a piece of Pine and I want something clear and relatively easy to apply as I am not an experienced wood finisher but am a decent painter.
Thank you!
He is Back ! The original WoodWorknator !
Nice to see you again! Thanks for the method and tips. Hearing Princess MeowMeow’s themesong made me smile.
Interesting approach. Thanks for sharing!
I started using Lacquer because I saw you using it. It really is a great finish!
The old adage “you don’t know what you miss til it’s gone” is very true. Good to see you again. I’m definitely trying this.
Just about to build my first (after watching you for over 5 years!) little table. Perfect timing and thank you so much for all your videos and excellent newsletter.
It’s a great video and really helpful because I love the finish. It was good seeing you pop up on my YouTube
The way you get to the point quick show what needs to be shown and THEN get into details is absolutely heavenly. Thank you so much for respecting your viewers time Steve and as always a great tip!
Thank you Steve! This is great information. Of course… lacquer fuses to lacquer so the dust isn’t such an issue. I hadn’t even thought of that before! Thank you for sharing your genius with all of us.
