Woodturning – One Of My Hardest Turnings !!

In this woodturning video I take a relatively big Yew piece and turn an end grain natural edge bowl. This was among the most challenging pieces that I have turned. I made a jig for the bandsaw to get the rough shape, which worked truly well, but the density and the wild edge meant my tools were dulling actually quick and the inside took me a couple of days alone to turn, I completed it with Danish oil and as normal the character of the Yew never dissatisfies. I was delighted how it turned out even after a harsh few days. Now I need to consider something to do with the offcut!!

  1. Hi 👋, Andy , excellent work, I made something very similar last year for a friend of mine back in the UK as a gift, he was around 33 inches in One Direction and 18 and the other I ended up carving the ends out by hand, but it looked very similar to yours, I’ve just been looking at your comments from different people, you have some very strange people leaving comments, young ladies,
Keep up the great work stay safe , listening and watching my quiet space in rural France,

  3. This is absolutely beautiful, the rings show that is this Yew must have been over 50 years old and now, even though its gone, this piece will live on for a very long time. It always amazes me how you can turn out these masterpieces
