Woodturning – It was maybe better left as a log !!

In this video I turn a natural edge from an Ash crotch log, I was a bit gutted to lose all the natural colours that were on this log, I thought the finished piece was a bit boring in contrast.

  1. Nice job! I like how you left the lichen in place. Might be home for a few critters πŸžπŸ¦—πŸŒπŸ›πŸ˜‰

  2. I guess this hunk of wood could have been left as is but then we wouldn’t be admiring this uniquely fabulous conversation piece now would we Andy?!!!

  3. I always love it when you leave the “natural” edge on a piece. Great work even if it’s not what you hoped for.

  4. So I woke up on a not very promising Friday morning thinking I could just fancy one of your videos as I think about getting up and giving the cat his breakfast and there you are with a natural edge bowl too which are my absolute favourites. What a treat! There’s nothing wrong with it Andy, it’s beautiful and one of your specialities. Your “bread and butter” pieces put everyone else’s best efforts in the shade. Yes, I like the coloured pencils, the many-coloured mosaics, the free-ring goblets, the triumph of ingenuity and technique over materials; but finding the beauty in the most unpromising chunk of timber is real craftsmanship. The rest is highly enjoyable showing off!

  6. I’m not sure what you envisioned Andy but it turned out really pretty. I can see large/giant pine cones collected from massive Sequoia pine trees nestled in the bowl. ❀❀❀

  7. Most definitely better now, than when it was a log. Cheer up Andy, it looks great. Well done.😊

  8. Another beautiful work, Andy! Really well done! πŸ˜ƒ
Stay safe there with your family! πŸ––πŸ˜Š

  9. I love the fact that you left the green edge on, makes it look so natural, as if it grew to be that shape.
