In this video I turn a piece of Birch Burl into a natural edge bowl. I normally try and keep the bark on pieces like this, however the bark was hiding how cool the natural edge really was and there were a number of sections missing, so I chose to eliminated it.

Us mere mortals would have been happy with a natural edged bowl, but no… you knew it would be better, more spectacular, and have greater impact in its naked form. And of course, you were right. Brilliant as usual.
Thankyou
I liked the bark on the edge. I gave the piece more character.
There were a few section missing, which made the decision easier to remove it but I get what your saying..
Such a beautiful piece Andy. Quite an unexpected end result considering how it started out. Very well done.
Many thanks!
Another piece that brings out the natural beauty.
Look at those shavings! We all know that you are the sharpest tool in the shed Andy, but your tools are giving you a run for your money. π
π Thanks π
I liked it with the bark on, but as you showed us, the bark on this one was loose. Either way, it’s a beautiful piece.
Thank you very much!
I kind of liked it better with the bark on the edges. It was a nice contrast to the sheen of the wood which was almost opal-like before you coated it at the end.
you always amaze me with the end result β€
excellent choice, beautiful peice – as always!
Yes, because it’s bark is worse than it’s bite! Thank you Andy. God’s many Blessings to all.
Beautiful work, again! I also always find fascinating how you balance out an irregular piece of wood before you start turning.
As always Andy no disappointment, beautiful piece.just keep doing your thing.be safe ππππππ
Now that I see it with the finish, removing the bark was a good choice! Beautiful piece Andy. β€
Beautiful, Andy. It was a great decision to remove the bark.

Your artistic vision and your craftsmanship are astounding, Andy. π This piece of eye candy doesn’t need a bark edge to be beautiful.
Looked like an iridescent pearl and yes better without the bark. So pretty. β€β€β€
Friday morning Zen! Thank you!
