Woodturning – A Reclaimed Pitch Pine Post

In this woodturning video I take a piece of a reclaimed Pitch Pine post and turn a vessel with some added texturing.
There were many divides on this piece as well as some discolorations from where the nails had actually been, so I chose to secure the Dremel and add some texturing to disguise them. I believe I went a bit over the top with the texturing and colouring however its too late now LOL.
Update – I wasn't that delighted with the texturing on this piece. So I redid it with a bigger cutter making it more uniform, which you can see if you visit my website – link below

  3. I’ve always liked the pale yellow hues that are most commonly associated with pinewood. This one is a great example of how beautiful it can be with left to its natural color. The colors you chose for the textured portion are a good complement to the natural wood tone. Good work sir.

  4. Now, that’s what I call recycling! You always add such interesting design elements to each piece. I did hope that finding that hidden nail didn’t cause damage to your gouge. I guess that’s the chance you take when repurposing wood. At any rate, the results show it was well worth the risk. This piece is lovely!
