In this video I turn a natural edge kind, from a newly cut Silver Birch crotch Log. leaving the limbs showing makes it some what impractical however definitely makes it more fascinating. I do not turn a great deal of green wood however my preferred method of drying is to turn quite thin (these walls were around 8mm) and then give it multiple brief blasts in the microwave, to lower the wetness to a point where I can sand it without the sandpaper clogging up, then I will enable it to dry naturally before using oil.
Update – It's practically 3 weeks since I finished this piece and thankfully there has been no splitting and the moisture material is at 15%.
