Woodturning A Crazy Crotch Ash Log !!

In this Woodturning video I turn an Ash Crotch log into a natural edge kind. This log was due to be cut up for firewood however as you most likely understand I'm a sucker for anything weird looking that may be a little bit of an obstacle to turn so thought I would give it a go. I don't mind the odd crack in pieces but as you can see, one opened up massively overnight, I did contemplate simply putting it back in the fire wood pile but thought I might also include some epoxy to the crack and complete it off. Thanks for checking it out.

  1. Fantastic grain pattern! Great that you let the crack be recognized by giving it a nice color. Beautiful bowl. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

  2. What a nice thing to wake up to. Resin and coloured pencils are a lot of fun, but a nice natural edge bowl from the most random-looking chunk of firewood is where it’s really at. And when it splits, no worries: a drop of turquoise resin adds not just colour contrast but another dimension. Nice one.

  3. Oh no… a massive crack – the piece is ruined. Andy: “That’s not a crack, that’s a feature.” Me: Oh yes, so it is. Why didn’t I see that. Nice work as usual sir.

  4. Once again, I see firewood, you see art piece. You even turned that crack into a beautiful asset. Well done!

  5. Yet again totally amazed with this piece of art. The grain pattern is stunning and the addition of the resin is a masterstroke. Fantastic as always Andy

  6. That’s great, Andy. I’m glad you made the crack a feature instead of chucking it back into the firewood pile.
