Stopped By The Rot !! First Fail video of the Year ..

I have actually had rather a great deal of remarks throughout the years asking to see any fails I have actually had while turning – Well regrettably here's my most current.
I was wanting to turn a natural edge type with this unusual shaped Ash Burl but I was worried from the start that I may have some issues. I got the rough shape turned and then included great deals of sanding sealer and wet rot hardener in an attempt to strengthen it up, however when taking most likely the last pass the area I actually wanted to keep came off!! I might then see that there was excessive rot to keep going with the original strategy. I removed what I could and have actually added more damp rot hardener, I will perhaps split open the resin and hang back on it at some point. Thanks for examining it out.

Now you have more firewood for the wood burner !! he he he he
I bet YEW knew I say that !!! That burl was just a big Pain in the ASH !!!

  12. I hope that burl can be salvaged with resin. It looks like an interesting piece with possibilities. I like the fact that you accept challenges. It has led to some pretty unique and beautiful pieces.

  13. I liked seeing this as well, it showed how you interact with the wood, trying to figure out what it will do. I learn a lot about wood watching your work.

  15. Oh man, that’s a shame. I really liked where this was going. With that amount of rot I think you were correct to abandon the design. I did have the thought, however, to change the axis and turn a bowl. I’m thinking there may be some fantastic grain down inside of that chunk.

    1. I did think about turning from a different axis.. like you say its too cool not to finish in some form
