  1. A steel desktop that can use wood overlays with magnets attached so everything can be adjusted on the fly. Mag switch your monitors or speakers.

  2. I don’t think there is one of your videos or projects I don’t like. Great work as always David 🙂

  3. If the keyboard sits over top of the laptop keyboard (to some extent), the laptop screen is now closer to you and it takes less desk space. I might have to make something like this, great idea!

  4. Great video David, You should buy more than one Logi keyboard have a spare so when your 1st one goes you have a spare (maybe buy two). It likes when a guy finds a good pair of shoes always buy two because when you want to replace them they are not made anymore! 😀

    1. Especially since Logitech slightly changes the dimensions of their keyboards with every update!

  5. I’d actually love to see this redone. It shows the progress of refinement through experience. This project is not done, it’s just part one of potentially many bits in your office project. Have you considered making custom key caps?

    1. 100% This is the proof of concept. Then Alpha > Beta > … > v.3.0. > Custom wood key caps > Custom PCB Keyboard layout and kb-frame > Into a new proof of concept > etc. circle.
I like to see someone elses thought process of work-flow improvement, especially if that someone else (like a wood-worker yt man) is Totally different than myself. Because diference in use case opens the mind to the “Aaaha!” moment.
Don’t like the YT-er “This is the best thing ever!” < And it sits on a filming-set wall never used, as decoration.

  6. If you go the desk route. Make it a box in a box. You will change your keyboard way before you’ll want to redo your desk. Make so that you can drop in a new inset that fits the new keyboard!!

    1. Then could have another insert for other purposes too, I’d do cutting mat/soldering mat inserts

    2. This was my very first thought. It could play well with the cover idea too.

I’d also make the keyboard housing have a way to adjust the height and angle of the keyboard. Those facets of a keyboard are very personal, and not every keyboard is going to match your preferences. Allowing the desk to compensate for that would allow you to ignore that aspect in the keyboard purchase decision.

  7. As a person who works with your hands and I presume want to do so for a long time, make sure you have a look at the ergonomics of angles for keyboard etc. I’ve had problems with my hands/arms from bad computer working setups. Not fun at all…
Love the content, both here and on the podcast, keep it coming!

  8. I have that same Logitech keyboard, picked it up because I like low profile keyboards and have always liked standalone laptop type keys. Got it home, used it for half an hour that night, and immediately bought a second one for my office computer. They are the ducks nuts. Love the idea of sinking it into the desk, even more low profile! My only problem is that I tend to move my keyboard around a lot depending on whether im watching video, playing games, working etc, so I think I would struggle having it fixed in a single spot!

  9. I love the idea of you revisiting older builds! Either big changes in their own video, or a bunch of smaller changes in a combined video

  10. I love builds like this! I constantly look around my desk at home and think ‘What can I make to improve this or make something for it’. I’m designing a monitor stand that encloses my speakers as my next project.

And, many of us likely have thought about re-doing projects to see how we can improve them. Seeing your thought process on how you recognized what you didn’t like, and how you improved would be awesome as well!

  11. I usually work in fabric, so I get the whole “good start but it could be better” thing, but I honestly can’t get passed how gorgeous it is. Isn’t walnut just the gift of the Gods?

  12. Obviously it would be easier to just pull the keyboard out of the desk and put a blank in its place, but… Have a lever under the desk that moves the keyboard frame up and down. Lower it and put a wood cover over the top for a flat desk surface. Bonus points if the cover can slide into place from underneath and then you move the lever to “lock” the cover into position. As another commenter said, you still want a keyboard frame so that you can have a “standard” size hole in the desk that you can adapt a replacement keyboard to.

  13. Just do a round desk like on parks and recs where when you are done on the computer you spin your chair and it’s behind you out of sight!! Every 1/4 turn is a new station. One for writing, one for your computer, a bar station!! And one just for eating lunch!!!

  14. There is a reason I made it this far in the Video. It is your nice and calm attitude and the many creative Ideas you share with us. I love your approach of only making videos that you like and that don’t necessarily correspond to the masses. This way the whole thing gets more and more your individual stamp, which this channel already has thanks to your unique and great taste for things and design. Please continue like this, ideally the way you like it. Love your work, your Attitude and the whole channel. Be you! Greetings from Germany, Tobias ❤😊

  15. Your style of videos make it new to the viewer regardless of a project you redo. Your channel is just that electric

  16. If you make the keyboard and loop deck as separate pieces, you can put magnets on one edge of each so they “click” together when not in use and then, when you want to use the loop deck, it’s easy to separate and put where you want it.

  17. To help with the loop deck issue, you could make the keyboard and loop deck separate pieces with hidden magnets on the side so you can connect and disconnect them from one another as desired

  18. Love that you just jumped in with an idea! And that you were honest about what you liked and didn’t. And as always that style of video was great!
