Woodworkers Secrets Revealed – Click Here to Discover the #1 Woodworking Resource!
Watching your videos and listening to y’all chat on the podcast always helps me to stay focused and creative. I enjoy and respect your openness and realistic approach to AI. And I really appreciate your desire to always pursue creativity in your work. Great job, man!
What podcast?
As an old-school IT guy, I have my concerns with AI. We already see how it is being misused in the music industry with deceased singers. The use of AI in designing is quite cool and can really help someone actually ‘see’ what is possible. I agree on having some type of watermark. Good luck with your projects.
Yeah just because we can make Hank Williams sing Baby Got Back doesn’t mean we should.
But maybe Hank’s anaconda don’t want none unless you got buns, hon.🤷♂️🐍🥐🥐
Yes! Recently discovered that I have aphantasia. My family didn’t believe me, but anything that can help visualise is awesome.
what colour is a banana?
Thank you for sharing this technique. I had not thought of this approach to visualizing ideas, but it makes perfect sense. I can think of several projects I want to do where this will help me get past that “pre-project procrastination / where do I start” phase. I am going to try this today!
I think this is the first time I’ve actually been somewhat excited about AI. I literally just sketched a chair a couple of weeks ago and just couldn’t get a good visualization. I don’t draw very often but I am starting to learn how to use SolidWorks and wanted to move it into there and maybe make it one day. I think this will be a great way to get that idea to a place where I can make that a possibility. AI isn’t going away so it’s better to learn how to live with it and use it as a tool than to just be afraid of it
What a useful video. I have not thought of using AI in this way. Like you , I have serious reservations about how the whole concept is regulated. I have only used the technique once to create a decorative unicorn and name graphic for a young girl’s wooden shopping trolley I made. Thank you again.
I think this is an amazing way to help visualise our ideas.
I’m not great at drawing the ideas that I have circulating in my mind, and being able to describe what your idea is, and then seeing it, is amazing.
After all , it is still my idea, albeit generated into a physical form.
Thanks for inspiring a generation of makers !
You have been hitting it out of the park with your videos lately. I absolutely love your unique and creative take on things which inspires me.
Next up:
1. Draw an escherian stairwell
2. Ask ChatGPT to generate the STL
3. Watch ChatGPT implode
Awesome. Now I want to see that rental room but this time turn the Weiner dog into a seal.
I’m starting to work on my Easter dress today, fully inspired by your recent videos. I bought the most expensive fabric I’ve ever bought just because I loved it and felt inspired. The design ideas I have are all based on how I think the fabric will be best shown off. I bought some cheap thrifted sheets to practice with first though, and I’m super excited!!!
I think the idea of using AI as a stopgap in your design process isn’t inherently unethical. The problem is that the AI we have today, is NOT built in any sort of ethical sense. It is built and structured entirely on the theft of creatives. By supporting companies like OpenAI, we are telling them we are OK with what they are doing, and encouraging them to keep doing more of the same. I’m sorry David, I can’t support you on this one.
I think it’s a good tool for someone like me who can’t draw for crap but likes making things
I don’t have a problem with people using AI to help them develop something but I just hope in the long run it doesn’t end our creativity. I have seen and heard some really cool things from people who have used AI. The possibilities are endless.
The one thing that terrifies me about AI is how it will be used to track us by people who do not have our best interest at heart.
You’re growing by leaps and bounds Dave, love your vids, now if you would only talk more on the “Making It” podcast. Enjoy your day.
It is 100% unethical to use these models even beyond the art/labor theft since it burns a tremendous amount of energy to generate each image.
Thanks a bunch for all the info, Dave! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I’ve never trusted robots, and at times shake my fist and yell at them, like that Grandpa Simpson meme “old man yells at cloud”. But recently, I’m starting to soften a bit. David, I think you just pushed me over that great robot hating rubicon. If they can help me with my creativity in woodworking, I’ll stop yelling at the robots, or at least not throw rocks at them anymore.
Great video David! I have done the same thing with patterns for my leather craft designs. It’s a game changer.
Great idea! I have concerns with AI as well, but I can’t deny it has the ability to improve our lives.
