New (more recent, in fact) miter saw to take me into the next decade, ideally. The old Hitachi was showing it's age, so I figured the time had actually pertained to make the change.
Not sponsored! Even though I got this saw in a previous offer to promote this line of tools, that contract ended. I'm not getting anything from Dewalt for doing this, it's simply a choice based on the quality of the saw and the reality that I have it.
If I were buying a replacement saw, I most likely would not purchase the battery powered variation of this brand, and might not buy this brand at all. I would look around and get the one that I thought was the very best quality/ value compromise.
But I will say that my early impressions are that this saw is at least as capable as the Hitachi it is replacing. It has the very same performance and capacity and appears to be too made.

Hmm, at what point did you realize that could have removed the power cord + adapter to make the new saw even lighter and less cumbersome when you were moving it back and forth getting it set up? 😁😉 (took me most of the video)
I’m too much of the getter done type to stop and think about making the job easier.
Cool watching you solve problems and modify the tools. I learned a lot. Thank you.
When it comes to tool upgrades I try to donate. Either to friends that do not have said tool or I go to my local habitat for humanity restore and drop it of there.
Excellent suggestion. I think I’ll take your advice.
John, why the heck didn’t you disconnected the power adapter from the new saw while you moved it in and out? 😬
It would’ve made things much easier!
Anyway, fantastic work!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
That was stone cold to let the Hitachi make his last cut so his replacement would fit ! 😢😭🤣Hope you nailed it with the title. Hard to see as a viewer , but looks like it would be a good idea to hang the hose on a spring or something way up top in the cabinet to have it out the way and see the logo better. Good video John and nice adaptation from the cabinet. 👌
Kinda like training a new hire to replace yourself!
@Mike King Yeah…it was like he was digging his own grave…
@Mike King That exact same thought was going through my mind.
To funny
I did the exact same thing on my dewalt saw for dust management. Great minds, right
Seeing the old saw dutifully making the cuts so the new one fits.
You should do an auction of your old saw. I’m sure there are some hardcore JH fans who would love to own that saw.
Even though I dislike those types of saws, extends out back, offset handle not centered over blade, this integration looks great.
Always handy to have an extra saw.
Another member of the family is retired. Sad to see it go. Lots of good memories with that saw. I remember I almost bought that same Hitachi because I became aware of it from your videos but also because it didn’t need as much room at the back. I ended up getting a Dewalt at the Homeless Despot as it was on sale.
The Dewalt cut square right out of the box which was great but that “75% dust collection via the bag” is horse s**t. I finally found an adapter to hook a shop vac into it but the problem with that is the rubber shroud where the dust enters would collapse under the pressure of the shop vac and not allow saw dust to enter. I ended up building an enclosure around the saw and the shop vac just plugs into the enclosure itself. That keeps most of the saw dust out of my shop and I just clean up inside of the enclosure once in a while.
Dewalt make nice saws but like a lot of brands the dust collection is a bit of a problem. It’s just the nature of how miter saws work.
I never expect perfect dust collection, and I think that a lot of guys have too high expectations for it with a tool like this.
Great solution with that little bracket for strength.
Thanks Bruce 🙂
I’d have kept the Hitachi, A very good saw, worth a bit of maintenance. I have never liked De Walt yellow stuff. Liked their pro Panel saws.
If John finds the hose an issue, he will probably just install a track (like with bifold doors) to the underside of the cabinet above with a sliding support strap. It’s probably not an issue for him though.
Mr. Heisz great video. You seemed in really in good spirits lately love all the new content from the channels 😉 I’m 38 Tuesday and I’ve been watching you since the wooden Vise video about 10 years ago you gotten me into wood working and welding thank you sir for great inspiration on every video cheers and blessings from Texas.
It will be interesting to see how this saw ages, I have a DeWalt drill, and Sander that I bought a good 30 years ago, that are still going strong. The only thing I had to do was replace the cord on the drill because the rubber was cracking, and exposing the inner wires.
I like the corded feature. I used to have a cordless drill driver I carried when I did network installation years ago, and if your in a ceiling, or under desks etc, it was great, but in the shop, I don’t mind cords, as opposed to having to fool with all of the batteries. I like some of the features of cordless tools have these days, but, but if I could get an adapter, I might consider a few.
It’s a shame to get rid of that old saw…what are your plans for it? Great video thumbs up.
I haven’t upgraded my Hitachi, because the zero rear clearance is a big deal to me
Muito bom, parabéns! 🇧🇷
