Wood Carving a Rare WWII Amphibious Vehicle | Volkswagen Typ 166 (Part 1)

The VW Type 166 Schwimmwagen was among the most uncommon military vehicles ever constructed during World War II. Created to take a trip on both land and water, its special boat-shaped body and rear propeller made it an exceptional engineering achievement of its time.

In this very first part of the develop, we start changing a strong block of wood into the distinct hull of the Schwimmwagen. Every measurement, cut, and chisel stroke is performed by hand, revealing the structure of this legendary amphibious automobile.

This project is divided into several parts to maintain the full woodworking procedure and relaxing workshop environment. In Part 2, the design will continue to take shape with the addition of wheels, interior details, steering system, windshield, and the iconic water prop.
