InfiMaker sent me their brand name new K1 desktop 5-axis CNC to test before its public launch, so I made the same hammer head three times, when in oak, when in brass, and once in stainless-steel, to truly put this 5-axis CNC machine through its speeds. In this video I cover the full CNC machining workflow, developing the part in Fusion, setting up the toolpaths, running tool modifications on the automatic tool changer, and machining difficult metals like stainless steel on a desktop CNC device, something that used to need a commercial machine shop. I share the mistakes I made along the method, what I enjoyed about this 5-axis CNC router, and what still requires operate in a machine that's still in beta.

    1. @InfiMaker I am a machinist. That the door can be open while the machine is running is a huge safety issue. You’ve designed a machine with software for people that do not understand what they are actually doing. If a tool breaks or a chip gets thrown while someone is poking their head in, they could easily loose an eye or worse.

  2. From the way you mentioned having to pay attention and not be able to break up a job into small chunks so you aren’t sitting there all day, I assume it does not have a way to detect broken bits (or end mills or whatever)?

  4. Dang! I have so many ideas that could come to fruition with this. It definitely seems like it’s going to be a great piece of kit. I wish I could afford it. The KS price is approachable but full retail is going to be a hard swallow, but in the end if it’s making you money it’ll definitely pay for itself.

  7. Love it and the build envelope, would love to know the error stacking and repeatability for aluminium parts

    If I could get 5-10 pieces within 0.01 each for mounts that’d be amazing

    Also lacking information on if I can mount to the backside of the bed to have basic 3 axis capabilities for simple plates?
