I set out to show that a desktop laser cutter can make more than rollercoasters and keychains– it can make real furniture. Using the new xTool P3 80W CO2 laser cutter, I developed and built a full-size Danish modern chair entirely from plywood, without touching a table saw or router. In this video I show how to handle joinery with layered construction, cut half-inch Baltic birch in a single pass, and utilize the P3's pass-through system for extra-large panels. Along the method I highlight features like built-in electronic cameras, LiDAR auto-focusing, industrial water cooling, and advanced safety systems. If you have an interest in laser cutting, CNC woodworking, do it yourself furnishings constructs, or contemporary chair style, this task reveals just how far desktop lasers have actually come.

Woaw, the technology is developing each and every day! Fun project, thnx for sharing.
That’s so easy, it should be illegal!
🤣
how long would it take to make a chair like that using your other tools vs using the lazer?
People should learn how to mix imperial and metric rather than complaining about either one
You never cease to amaze! That was just awesome. One can only dream of a machine like that. It got my creative juices flowing 🎉
I’ve also have been known to mix imperial and metric. I’m glad I use both. Metric can be way easier after “getting over the hump”.
No Canadian was harmed in the use of imperial and metric – we’re used to it.
You needed bobs clamp champ shirt for this build 😂
Love the old Mac being used lol
You can tell which which scenes were filmed the day after our Making It 500 event. I lost my voice from talking to so many amazing people. If you were there, thank you for coming out and saying hello! ❤
I was going to send a dm and ask if you had gone to the dentist 😊
Noticed that too. Now you know what you’ll sound like as an old man! 😉 Greetings from the 614!
I was there at the event and had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with you.
XCS doesn’t support linux
“You Can Now Build This With ONLY a Desktop Laser” – *sees the $7,000 – 10,000 price tag*… No sir. No I cannot.
I keep trying to convince myself not to buy a laser cutter, and then you come out with this… You’re killing me here!
Chair came out cool, would’ve liked to see you do edge banding to hide the ply layers. I see that being a big use for the xtool.
In Canada everyone mixes Metric and Imperial whenever they feel so all good here.
The chair looks amazing. Good work sir!
I got a little diode laser and have been amazed at the things I can do with it. Lasers are freaking amazing!!
Beautiful work, Dave! The chair looks great! 😃
Really well done!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I always love seeing what you create. It’s fun and interesting to explore ideas and thoughts. Great chair design 👍
Very cool design idea. That could be a game changer.
Thanks Dave! Great video! After looking up “Danish Furniture” I’m going to drag every piece of furniture out of the house to the back yard and burn it then buy one of these lasers and do a whole house make over! lol!
