This Burl is Stunning – Do Not Waste it !!

I have actually had this Horse Chestnut Burl for a number of years but I have actually hesitated to turn it, as I didn't wish to squander any of it. I likewise could not bring myself to cut it up, so I chose to buy a coring system. After getting feedback from other turner's, I got the Oneway coring system and a couple of knives. Most likely not the easiest piece for your very first effort at coring, however it went well, and I think this was the best method to show off this sensational burl. I wouldn't recommend utilizing a glue block for a tenon on something like this however the burl inclusions on the base made it impossible to turn a good tenon without losing a few of it's finest character. I completed the bowls with Danish oil.

  4. I love a good burl. They make some of the best wood projects I’ve ever seen. And I’m a big fan of the cores, I know Jim Sprague uses the oneway a lot, and it is amazing to see the bowls he can get out– it would all be shavings if it weren’t for the corer. So yay new adventures!
