Recycling Oak Sleeper Off Cuts !!

In this video I take some gnarly offcuts from an Oak sleeper, which I purchased a few years back and make a pedestal side table. I utilized some epoxy resin coloured with Teal mica powder to form the top and fill some cracks, which I extended into the base to attempt and add some continuity.

  1. Mr. Andy, once again you have created an artistic masterpiece. Super smart idea to extend the cracks from the post to the base.

  2. It took me a long time to work out where you were going, then the pedestal emerged. Clever to make the cracks in the old wood into the central design motif. I admire your craftsmanship and your imagination: it’s the combination that makes your pieces so appealing.

  3. Very nice table , I like using non perfect pieces . This has so much character, never get tired of looking at it . Very well done . All The Best to you and yours , stay safe .

  4. Beautiful work, Andy! Really stunning little table! 😃
    Really well done!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

  5. Another creative and beautiful project Andy. I am curious as to how you got the oak pieces out of the form with the resin. It didn’t look like the form was treated with mold release, and so I am curious as to how you were able to get that piece out. Thanks

    1. Thanks .. It was always a sacrificial mould so the sides got cut off with the bandsaw and the base was prized off with a chisel .. in multiple pieces 😂

  6. I love the look. I can’t help thinking that that round base will start to wobble after a few weather changes. Was anything done to stabilize it?

    1. Thanks .. the oak for the base was around 7years old so I’m not expecting it to move much and added 3 cork pads to it which should allow for any slight movement

    2. @Andy Phillip it’s a great looking piece. My questions are only based on my uncertainty. I usually do cutting boards and miniatures, but love wood turnings.

  7. Can you imagine decorate your home with the the beautiful art work you’ve created? I’m coastal so this resin color you chose was what I would’ve picked 😍👍🏼🇺🇸

  8. Hi Andy what a brilliant design and creation you did really well. The little table is magnificent and unique well done. Amanda xx
