  1. In this video I take the last of the Gate Post blanks and attempt to carve Groot’s head but it looks more like a cross between ET and Frankenstein’s monster!! I really need to stick to woodturning …

    1. Don’t be so hard on yourself! Was your first globe perfect?
I think you might try shortening the face a little in the jaw next time. He’s got a little less lower mandible. I think it looks really cool!

  2. I think you did a GREAT job! It kind of did remind me of Frankenstein’s monster at first, but I can certainly see Groot! Way to go, Andy! Don’t sell yourself short. You are very talented! 🙂

  3. Вау Енди!!! Вы не только столяр, вы настоящий скульптор художник. Оффигенно 👍👍👍👍👍

  4. That is outstanding!!! I am always intrigued when you start with tools other than the lathe or the saw just chopping off unusable bits. This time I could see you were going down another route, and despite the fact that it’s still not 6am (blooming back! And now the rona…), you had me hooked from second #1!

Your carving skills as well as your painting skills are both skills I’d give an -arm- leg for (would need both arms probably…) I think the final product is both artful (in the positive, not dodgy sense) and a lot of fun! Putting the plant in it just topped it off perfectly. Stop underestimating your skills FCOL! You have more artistic/craftsman’s skills in your little finger than I have throughout my body. I love it!

  5. You really need to start a new channel … “1001 things to do with a gate post” … this is just fantastic 👍

  6. Not only is he adorable, he is a functional vase, too? You, sir, do not give yourself enough credit. I love him! Only change I would make to make him even more Groot-like would be to paint his eyes (at least a black pupil and maybe a little amber around it)

  7. no, you shouldn’t stick to turning. this is absolutely awesome. your sculpting skills are magnificent. please more of this 🙂

  8. He looked positively infuriated when adorned with the parsley headpiece 🤣
You’re far from one dimensional with your creativity Andy 👍

  9. It’s teenage groot!!!!!! I love it you never give yourself enough credit for your work and skill, every piece you make is a wonderful work of art and functional

  10. He is Groot! So cool Andy! Please keep doing projects like these, he’s wonderful!!!
I carve wood figures. I’ll have to think about making little vases or pencil holders. Thank you for the inspiration!!! 🤟🍀🌠

  11. Digging deeper into different branches of Art is never a failure! I really like the look of Groot.
I’m trying myself to grow some new abilities to craft things but it’s a mere bud in the moment.

  12. Andy, he looks great. You obviously have no clue what a mess I could make attempting anything like that – I’d love him on my kitchen windowsill looking after some herbs!

  13. It came out pretty nice. First I thought you’re going to make one of this Easter Island heads. The only thing I’d made differently is I would have left him without paint. He looked more naturally then.

  14. Let’s agree to disagree: I recognized adult groot at the first strokes of Dremel. Amazing job !
