Hardwood from Kencraft:
In this task I set out to blur the line between art and furnishings by constructing a modern-day walnut coat rack that doubles as a wall sculpture. What looks like a complex geometric piece with 68 glue joints is actually a basic one-day woodworking develop utilizing similar pieces, imaginative butt-joint joinery, and vibrant acrylic/glass inserts inspired by mid-century Eames style. In this video I stroll through the whole process– from developing functional art for our entryway, to cutting the hooks, gluing the lattice, enhancing end grain, routing rabbets for the colored panels, and installing the finished coat rack with command strips. Whether you enjoy do it yourself home projects, woodworking strategies, practical wall art, or constructing your own modern-day coat rack, this task shows how type and function can interact perfectly.

Looks great. Can’t wait to see how you did it.
Love the glass and acrylic.
11:16 can you show that on YouTube!?
That’s how you play to the algorithm these days
He definitely filled that butt joint with glue.
I really enjoy your creativity and it inspires me
Wow! That’s beautiful, David! Keep up the good work!!
If you need spacers like these and don’t have a laser just go ahead and use your CNC 😂
This was the exact comment I was going to make. Classic Picciuto.
RAD is one of my all time favorite movies! So cool to see it playing in the background as you work!
I always enjoy seeing what he’s got in the background. Thanks bc I was not familiar with this one!
@kevinfager.RAD is from the 80’s. If you like BMX it is a classic and you will enjoy it!
Holy cow, your shop is immaculate.
🔥”David’s World of Hot Designs”🔥 😂 Featuring: ‘An Indulgent Dowel montage’ ✨️
❤ Great video full of cool fun shots and another lovely project in the Picciuto style. ❤
This is so cool to see after listening to the Making It podcast from episode 1. Getting to hear you talk about your dream workshop and projects, then seeing how they became real.
Just dropping a POSITIVE comment down here. Not sure what’s up with the haters on this one (most of which aren’t posting content of their own).
I love that you are staying true to YOUR style and this piece is another reflection of just that. Srsly. It’s art. Some will like it, some won’t. All good.
Congrats on the art show, and keep banging out great videos. This might be the tightest, cleanest and most creative edit so far. I know how much time all that nuance takes. Pro work, my friend.
very inspirational Dave and nice job on the edit , felt like a making it episode. I was waiting for Bob and Jimmy to chime in.
You should make a video converting your tape dispenser to something battery powered and over the top. Something totally fun while pissing off the haters…..mahogany, Laser/cnc everything, have it powered by Festool batteries! Treat it like you found it on a thrift store shelf and turn it into a work of art. Thanks for being yourself and letting us be a part of the journey!!
hahaha love this idea!
Love seeing the design evolve during the process! It really looks great as a functional piece.
Very cool build. I love the structured randomness of the design. Also want to shout out the camera work here. Got some really great shots in this one. Thanks for sharing!
Man, that’s awesome. I’m absolutely stealing this idea when I move. Simple, beautiful, and functional. What’s not to like.
It’s a beauty David! Enjoy your channel.
Terrific coat rack project David! Hope that you guys had a nice Turkey Day! 👍👍
Walnut is my absolutely favorite wood, because of it’s depth and warmth. You seem to bring the best out of it’s quality.
“it is what it i-” *SLAP* “no. you take that back!” lol looks great! love how it turned out!
The greatest 80s movie of all time in the background! Rad.
