I struck the thrift shop to find the ugliest wall art I could and then turned 3 trash finds into legit, high-end gallery-style pieces. Along the method, I reconstruct the frames and remix each art work with a different mix of woodworking, metalworking, photography, epoxy resin, acrylic paint, string art, and laser work. I'm testing the limits of innovative decision-making by taking forgotten 70s visual appeals and transforming them into modern decor through techniques like required rusting, acrylic texture, and multi-layer resin pours. It's a messy, unintended journey that explores the philosophy of making and what happens when you stop overthinking and simply let the products dictate the last discussion piece.

Woodworkers Secrets Revealed – Click Here to Discover the #1 Woodworking Resource!
You’re making, I’m watching. Really like two of the three. You might have more people show up for you show if they know you are bringing pi.
What a fun creative challenge! The “HELP” is my favorite since the texture of the rust turned out so great. Never thought I’d be complementing rust haha.
When the OG art and their counterparts are next to each other I feel like they make a lot of sense. I got to thinking if the “inspired” pieces are shown without themselves, then do they “hold up” solo? I feel like the first 2/3 pass my subjective test, but the calculator doesn’t quite make it. It almost has to be shown with the lion… but that’s just my opinion! Each piece hits everybody differently.
Thanks for showing the thought process and the emotional side of creating something. It humanizes the process of “making” and gets me excited for the ups and downs of my next project!
I thought the “help” in the fancy cursive calligraphy would have been a fun contrast, but the aggressive drippy version does fit well with the industrial materials.
Nice touch using Pi on the calculator photo
@Surveyor3355 pi/10, yeah? Save some of that pi for your guests.
Fun way to spark creativity David. I also think the calculator is my fav🤷🏻♂️.
While watching the lion piece, I was hoping you were going to make an artistic photo of the sausage dogs. 😢
I was thinking the same thing 😂
That’s what I was expecting too.

I can remember back in the 70’s cutting out photos from magazine’s and coat them in lacquor on a board. I still have a Cougar I made when I was 9 ,10 years old. I would burn the edges of the picture to make it look cooler.
I did the same project in school.
I suspect a lot of us did.
Love the HELP sign.
Help is a great piece, but the calculator is my favorite, when I look at it I can appreciate the effort it took to make it.
The help sign is my favorite of the three!
Love the exploration and experimentation!
Calculator is the one I dig.
Pretty cool.
The calculator is missing the price tag. Remember it is supposed to be $1000. That is the WTF moment like the fact you paid $10 for the lion.
Yes! That’s it, you nailed it!
Once again David, you pulled it off in a way that only you could. Love your creativity. Thanks for posting.
17:25 Dan??!!
I think all 3 sets should be included in the art show. Just like the video all three are part of this particular journey. Each inspiring you differently and resulting in different outcomes.
that “help” graphic on a t-shirt!! xo
I wonder how that line art one would look with florescent colored fishing line.
Absolutely love the HELP sign!
I love how you completely cut loose with the creativity here. Mermaid is also my favorite with all the textures and mixed media. Thanks for sharing!
