This Unusual Technique Will Blow Your Creativity Wide Open

I check out the imaginative procedure through two powerful approaches: designing within restrictions and the game-changing method I learned from David Lynch– destroying your job and rebuilding from the chaos. I handle the obstacle of transforming two $5 thrift mini organizers with plastic drawers into a special cabinet. Along the way, I push myself to sketch more easily, accept unpredictability, and rely on the build-destroy-build procedure. The result is something far beyond what I at first pictured, a task that truly embodies imagination as problem-solving. This helps me break free from the concern of perfection and unlock new imaginative potential. Join me as I combine design principles with raw experimentation to produce something unanticipated and, truthfully, a little odd.

  1. Ive always watched your channel BECAUSE you’re an amazingly creative human being. Your humor, commentary, and self made music always keep me coming back. The three biggest influences I’ve had in my woodworking/creative journey have been you, erik curtis, and steve ramsey. All of you have pushed me to do projects that make me happy as well as the projects the wife wants/needs 😂. Keep being you every video, thats all I ask, algorithm be damned!

  2. I love how this turned out! It’s so much richer and impactful for the make-destroy-rebuild process ❤

  3. You are the main reason I got back into woodworking. I took wood shop in high school and really loved it! But, not being around people who make a living from woodworking and no youtube at the time ,I didn’t see the earning potential as a young kid. I wish i had stayed with it but ,the amount of space and money for tools was another obstacle. Now , many years later,my garage is full of tools and I’m getting my skills back ,thank you for the inspiration brother! This build is so visually stunning…love it

  4. Highly recommend putting the woodworking B-Roll back in the corner of the ads. It made me watch your ads rather than skipping and hearing the ad in the background is still effective.

  5. Fantastic! I got walnut crystal vibes looking at the final piece. Amazing build. Please keep on your current path. This is so much more inspirational than an instructional video.

  6. I love the direction you’ve been taking the channel. I’ve always watched because I enjoy you as a person and watching you grow and change as a maker and creative individual is wonderful and I’m here for whatever comes next.

  7. This turned out weird, wild, and cool as hell. I love all the crazy intersecting angles. And I’m enjoying sharing the journey of creativity with you. Thanks!

  8. YouTube is so destructive to the creative process. I would venture to say that 95% of full-time creators have at some point expressed a very similar sentiment. “I can’t make what I want to make because the algorithm will leave me behind.” So much for YouTube being true democratization of media. Thank you for risking subs and views to be yourself. That’s the “you” part of “YouTube,” right? I have loved your videos for ages and I can’t wait to see what authentic creations you put out in the future. Good luck, bud.

  9. I’m here because I’ve learned alot from the early how-go’s but now here for the inspiration, entertainment, and learn to get creative.

  10. Dude! First, well, I am so stoked for you! I am also stoked for me because your new content is what I have been looking for; inspiration, creativity and how to find and embrace them better! Also, I will absolutely search out his book. I have watched you for years and been truly inspired. I am thrilled that you are making content for yourself now…it’s only going to get better from here! Thank you for putting yourself out here like this. Love you man. Git it!

  11. Keep throwing the algorithm out the window and do what makes you happy. This is awesome. Can’t wait to see what’s next.

  12. Over the years, I’ve learned a lot from you on your how to and tool videos
I’m looking forward to the new direction and seeing more of your creative process thanks for the years inspiration
    Also great project

  13. So glad that creators like you and Bob Clagett are making videos on the process of design. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good woodworking tutorial or tool video. But getting some new ideas on how to approach design problems in my life has been wonderful.

  14. Reusing the cutoffs reminded me of a project where I cut off some sloped peices and then glued them back on to act as supports. It wasn’t part of the plan but I loved the way it came out and enjoy it each time I look at it.

  15. I love watching your content because of your design process. The more of this the better. There is not enough content on the designing process for woodworking. Keep up the great work.

  16. I love that you’re branching out with your channel. It will be nice to see real woodworking and not just jigs and tool reviews.
