  1. Man doing things the right way can be so expensive especially when it comes to home stuff. Glad that you were able to get a fix to address the bounce and even things out more than they were before. A wise man once said if it looks straight it is straight. I’m sure Jimmy would agree if it looks level it is level. Excited to see Shop 2.0.

  2. David, you used the hand that was dealt to you, and you made it work the best you could for you. That’s what matters. I am a 65 year old remodeling our home and we are making it work the best for us, which is the best that we can AFFORD. You came up with a solution and made it work for you. Looking forward to your next video as always.

  3. 19:03 Like Button moment: when your dogs join you to supervise the carpet tiles install. “Hey dad, you should put the next tile over here.” “Nice job dad, looking good.” (I’m assuming your dogs call you dad.)

  4. I wanted an unconventional workshop floor (like your carpet), but as I do metalwork I went with galvanised steel sheets. After a year I’m still happy with it

  5. I’ve had a similar experience where someone else makes a decision and you have to live with it. The choices are tough when correcting the issues on a budget. I’ve appreciated your thoughtfulness when discussing the choices you’ve made, it has helped me be better at explaining the decisions I make. Thanks for sharing your journey.

  6. Ooooh. I’m very excited for the next video! We did a basement remodel last year and one of the rooms we included was a shop, but the only tables we have right now have little to no storage. It’s very difficult to do anything when the only place to store things is on the surface you are trying to use to work. We just moved in some shelves, but drawers would be awesome!

  7. My feeling is that there’s no wrong way when it’s your space, your time, and your money. Long as your happy. Looks great! Hope it’s working for ya!!!

  8. Damn, Dave… What a headache! 😮
But yeah, I absolutely agree about the carpet. I’d do the same, but I’m really allergic. I can’t stay long where there’s carpet. 😕
Anyway, I’m happy you could solve it enough!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

  9. You improved your space. That’s the important bottom line. There’s even inspiration here. Because my slab is also hot garbage. It feels like a skate park in my basement. I think you did great. Thanks for taking us along.

  10. I am sure you don’t want to spend more money but get a better vacuum. A vacuum with a vibration, that bounces stuff out of the carpet works great. We have a Miele.

    1. If you have a vacuum shop in your area it’s worth visiting. I fought with cat hair using the machines I could buy at Target before going to a local shop and getting a proper vacuum. It cost 2-3 times more, but it’s lasted many years and is still going, so probably just as economical over time.

  11. What an adventure!

Have you ever tried one of the many robot vacs on the market? With the low profile of the carpet, they’d likely do a good job for day-to-day pickup. Ours is magic for picking up dog fur from normal carpet.

  12. A lot of things come down to life experiences. If you have never seen or heard of a process how would a person think about and doing that process. You go with what you know. Yes I would have done it differently, I would have ground the floor down. I know you mentioned the electrical in the floor but to me that was a minor issue (cut out boxes making it deeper, replace boxes, reinstall, and add a bag of concrete) again that is my life experience that created that choice. So no judgment.
Same with the poor concrete floor pour. The same probably happened for that home owner. Wanted garage limited budget. Need to cut cost. Do not remove old concrete less work less cost for removal. Why the edges probably sank is they either didn’t bring in good fill or compact it around the old slab, so it sank and the old slab did not. Again would have cost more to bring in good fill and compact it. If we ALL could have unlimited budgets and knowledge to do everything the right way definitely would be nicer.

  13. Wgtv needs to pay you for content, your stuff is top notch. Watching from Sylvania

  14. You can actually grind the concrete floor. Not cheap but probably less or same as the foam and leveler. And leaves you better in the end.

  15. I really feel saddended over your floor. Partially because I see the torment you went through, but mainly my new shop is now ready for me to unbox my tools and find out if I am in the same boat. Thanks for sharing your problems and solutions.

  16. There’s a saying in my line of work, “you have 2 ways of doing things the right way and again”. I think Reagan is quoted for saying this? I prefer Teddy Roosevelt: “Do what you can, when you can, with what you’ve got”. I just turned 41 and have adopted the latter as my creed. Love your creative space, David. It brings me joy and a sense of calm when I see it!

  17. Great work David! You did the best that you could have done based on what you started with. 👍👍

  18. An amazing space! You’ve done the best you were able within the reality of your resources. You create interesting and educational, and inspiring, videos, with a quality that sets a high bar. I love your channel, your focus, and can’t wait for more! Great job! 🎉❤
