I'm truly liking these. I should admit that my style mojo has taken a few wrong turns or stayed asleep in bed when I required it the most on a variety of jobs over the last couple of years, but this one is an exception. The basic lines and how it slopes down and is stepped on top truly do it for me. Matches the appearance I'm opting for completely.
Too difficult to movie much of the install, so I went with pictures rather, except when it concerned installing the trim. Then I got the old mouth camera charged up and practiced holding my breath.

Great video John! A little off topic, but… I know you’re using a clamped guide, but have you thought of making an actual tracksaw?? Might make a good video? Yes? No? I know you make a lot of homemade tools and it just popped in my head. I’ve never seen a video on a homemade track or tracksaw!
Absolutely love the angle, it’s very unusual and that’s what makes it even better 🙂 keep up the good work !
Lovely build John. Thumb up from me. 👍🏼
Who would have thought that a crooked shelf could look so good? 🙂
Hey John! I made myself a couple of clamps from your plans! They are so much stronger than I thought they would be!
Looks great, John! Did you have to scribe all the horizontal pieces all the way through, or just the cantilevered shelves on the right? I was thinking you could use a rabbeted 1/4in back and simply paint it to match the wall color for the built in look but then realized that probably wouldn’t look right with the shelves extending off the right. Great job as always though!
Nice. I love all the natural maple in your house.
Kind of a _Cabinet of Dr. Caligari_ look to these shelves. 😀
Always an inspiration. Thanks John
The angle make it far more usable. Superb.
Now I have to get the Are You Being Served theme out of my head… 😀
Another way to do it is to pre-assemble the shelves, hold in place temporarily, scribe it, and take down the high spots with a belt sander. This is especially good if you’re cutting MDF or prelaminated countertop or melamine.
I am so envious of your skills John.
Excelente trabajo 👍
I’m curious: When you made the first cut on the plywood, you used a home made guide clamped to the board. But, you put the saw Next to the guide, not On Top the guide as it appears to be designed. I’ve made myself a similar guide. Why did you use it this way?
You make everything you do look so easy! Does the sawdust ever give you any breathing issues?
I love that you used a ‘dead’ space in your house to make this shelf. I’m a minimalist at heart and I hate filling a house with shelves and crap and I really hate kick knacks too, lol. Looks great as always John.
I like your home renovation videos the most. Nice to see a video since its a long time ago.
Awesome for DVDs, CDs, books since nothing will ever fall over like with a regular shelf, perfect!
Awesome looking shelves. And mouth cam footage is always a nice bonus.
