In this video I turn an Oak log into a natural edge type. You may have seen me turn an Audrey bowl from a piece from the same branch a few months ago and I thought it would be cool to have a different shaped piece to pair with it.

general thoughts here. wood turning has upped my game in dendrology. the oaks, yew, the rarer woods need to be sustained if possible. If not create something out of them, bowls, furniture to help folks to have reverence for trees.

Your natural edge pieces are always lovely and this is no exception. As much as I appreciate the use of resin occasionally, I kind of prefer turned pieces in their natural state. This showcased the beauty of the oak very well.

Beautiful result. How long does it take you to turnouts a piece like this (hours/days)?
Never had much luck with oak a lot of the stuff I’ve turned has split sometimes months later.
But a beautiful timber and that’s o lovely piece of work great shape
