I discovered an old workplace chair on the side of the roadway and decided to provide it a 2nd life. What began as a plan to reconstruct it into a modern-day chair took an unexpected turn when I realized the frame would make an ideal side table. This develop is all about listening to what the project wants to be rather of requiring an idea. I'll show how I changed discarded furniture into modern fine woodworking, complete with a custom-made walnut inlay made from handmade veneers and genuine metal accents. Often the very best designs come from the moments when things do not go as prepared.

  1. The primadona on this work is the inlay. Adding metal into the inlay –> insane. Love your work from Indonesia 🇮🇩

  2. I made an upcycle project very similar to this….minus all the fancy wood working bits. When my son was growing out of his high chair, I found a 1970 era metal magazine rack at Goodwill that I repurposed into a rolling base that his old high chair tray clips onto. All it took was a little bit of carful measuring, a little bit of welding and some ingenuity. Like yours, the tray comes off for easy cleaning. I’ve always been impressed with how well it works, so much so that it feels like a manufactured item. My son is now 9 years old and still eats his breakfast on it every morning. I wish I could share a picture in the YouTube comments.

  3. Great advice at the beginning. Most of my projects don’t turn out exactly as I envision, but I always end up with something I’m happy with. Much like the idea that your hacks end up becoming your style, I think embracing this as part of the process is a major step in developing one’s unique style of making.

  4. Always impressed at how you incorporate your style into every piece. If I didn’t see this video, I would still know you made this. Also it was a great idea to make it detachable.

  5. Super cool project, great example of a creative pivot! I also agree that the project oftentimes dictates what direction it goes in.

  6. Trash To Treasure!!!! LOVE IT!!!!!! came out sooo cool man!!! Have a Great weekend! Love ya lol

  7. I was looking forward to a chair build, but yeah, this really wanted to be a table. Inlay looks great! Thanks for sharing!

  8. Some eBay seller is going to be really confused when chairs like this start selling out of nowhere. Awesome project yet again David, YouTube Studio better show this as a 1 out of 10!

  9. This is an awesome pivot!! Honestly this change increases the chance I could make a visit x10. With it being a destination I would be able to bring the wife and kids for a vacation. Build a project on the weekend, stay a few more days and do the lake vacation thing. So I am totally for this!! I disnt see this as any type of brag it’s just life and you doing what is necessary for your future. A diversified income is a smart move. Good luck, looking forward to your next chapters.

  10. Amazing project. Like you said, let the project tell you what it want‘s to be worked out great!
To remember the old chair with the fancy inlay, *chefs kiss*

  11. Love the upcycle adventure!! It’s very unique and a breath of fresh air to watch a free-flowing open journey of creation! 🌞

  12. could do that same chair design you used for the stencil and make the cuts with thicker wood. then after gluing it all up, run it through the band saw and you could make two or 3 trays

  13. LOVE metal inlay!! I want to make something that needs a butterfly and use metal for that, I think it would be a cool contrast.
