For me the technique to coming up with special designs is to look for motivation beyond . I drive past a lovely cement bench everyday and want to utilize that to affect an action that'll suit our living-room decoration. Inspiration in my can originate from anywhere and I attempt to constantly be open to aesthetically taking in shapes and angles I can use in my work.

When you were looking for that angle of the bevel to square the top and bottom of the base, instead of juggling the miter gauge on top you could use that angle gauge against the side and the top of your flat surface it should of given you the same angle without having to juggle it on the corner of the piece. Great project though I may have to make one myself
