This workshop breaks every rule, carpeted floors, concealed tools, no exposed ductwork. And it's all intentional! This isn't a space developed for maximum effectiveness, it's developed for convenience, imagination, and wishing to be here. In this video, I stroll through my store, discuss why I made these options, when effectiveness actually matters, and how the environment you operate in quietly forms the way you think and create.

Woodworkers Secrets Revealed – Click Here to Discover the #1 Woodworking Resource!
You’ve created the coolest workshop on the interwebs! I’m always excited to see what you are going to make next.
Scott Walsh just put out a vid espousing the use of spokeshaves to cut down on the amount of sanding curves.
Love the shop and love the philosophy even more. You’ve created an environment where the mind can wander and creativity can thrive. It’s defiant and awesome.
Great shop tour. I constantly have the argument that efficiency is not my primary goal in life. It is enjoyment. Thank you!
“Unsubscribe from the noise”
I like that !
Seeing the dude make a cameo makes so much sense!
Such an amazing shop. I imagine the dust collection being well hidden, the carpet, and the acoustic tile ceiling all also dramatically cut down on how loud everything is when working. I do some of that, not as throughly, nor as aesthetically, but your shop inspires me just like your work does.
12:36 I’ve been a LONG time viewer, and have always kept your space in mind when outfitting my space. I’ve put carpet remnants in and what a positive difference it’s made. I’ve also hung artwork and memories rather than tools. Whenever I move into the forever shop I plan on keeping this mentality. It’s NOT a shop, it’s an ever evolving CREATIVE SPACE. 🥂 David and Happy New Year
I resonate with the idea that you can make your own rules and need not follow others – my Sundays are always my own in keeping with at philosophy! 🤣 Birch Plywood is also important too! It is happy stuff.
Your shop is perfect for you! It fits you! I love it!
I love the fact that your workshop is different from all the other woodworking channels. It feels more like an art studio than a woodshop. When the camera starts and I see the colorful walls, I know we’re about to have some fun. I still remember the old basement shop and the vibe here is way more fun. Looking forward to all the cool stuff you’ll be sharing with us in the coming year. Hope you’re doing well this holiday season. Thanks for the many years of inspiration.
Recently I had to downsize into a condo.. lost my basement shop and my garage shop. I love seeing your shop constantly evolving into a place you want to be. I do have to say your shop is the one that I admire most out of all the YouTube makers.
Make Something… That is an awesome shop. I was walking through my local big box store and saw some indoor/outdoor carpet that I liked and thought how crazy would it be if I had carpet in my shop/garage. Then I see this video and realize it’s not crazy at all, it’s awesome and looks better than bare concrete.

I always enjoy hearing your shop philosophy. I am had it enjoy my namesake scroll saw.
Love the shop talk, David! I too reset my shop after every build. It allows me to come in with a clean slate from a clean shop. I also agree that the shop is a constant state of upgrade.
For sanding, I am impressed with Izzy Swan”‘s new tool line. Especially his vacuum hold downs.
Always love seeing your shop. I like my work areas to look like Retro Candy Land; it makes me smile, & keeps my depression at bay. Well done!
Always loved your shop and I’m hoping the art show brings you what you need. Lately you have been reminding me of myself when I’m searching for something, but I’m not quite sure what it is.
I absolutely LOVE your shop, it’s perfect for you. When I see your videos I don’t think of watching a woodworker who makes videos, I think of a filmmaker shooting woodworking videos. Your video style is so different from other channels, much more artistic and creative; you fill a niche I didn’t know I wanted.
