What if you could do REAL WOODWORKING with a laser? Featuring the xTool P2

What if you could do ACTUAL FINE with a cutter? No scorched edges, smooth round overs, thick husky legs and using real wood. I'm pressing the limits of what you can do with a desktop to make a side table that looks like it was used conventional strategies.

  1. B-E-A-UTIFUL! Fantastic use of ‘only’ the laser. ‘An iron is not a power tool.’ Agree to disagree, it is a tool that is powered.

  2. I have 2 d1pro machines and one has the extensions. I cut templates out but you have just opened up a whole new avenue. Loved it. And the registration points, genius

  3. Before your videos I didn’t know we had a real lumber company here in Toledo 🤦‍♂️🤣

  4. Yeah, now I want an xTool P2. Nice work! You’ve really innovated with a cool process on this project.

  5. Isn’t it funny how opinions on things change over time, as what was one thought of as cheap, now isn’t so cheap? I remember being a kid, my dad thought of plywood anything as being cheap, especially furniture. Nowadays though, we’ve got furniture made out of material even cheaper than plywood, because good plywood isn’t cheap.

I don’t know what they’ll use next after cardboard gets too expensive….

  6. I have the Xtool D1 pro 20W (diode rather than CO2 with the extended rails – there’s a 40W too) – also a great modelling and woodworking tool and can eat 6mm ply (never use it for anything thicker although it can). Only downside is the diode’s inability to cut translucent/clear/white materials – but _much_ cheaper than the full CO2 with cabinet etc. for a similar outcome. Good project BTW !

    1. I have the same, except not the pro… I get the most use out of it in making router templates. The 20w will cut 3/8″ pine like butter. I think 1/2″ is the thickest I’ve cut with it….. well, I did try 3/4″ once and started a small fire.

  7. This feels like the end of a series:
    1. Can you make fine furniture out of plywood?
    2. Can you make your own plywood?
    3. Can you make fine furniture out of making your own plywood?

  8. Nice dude, love the look of the finished product. Also love how your recent thumbnails look like they could be on the cover of better homes and gardens

  9. I need that band saw! I cut fallen limbs into boards for making keepsake boxes. Mine only cuts 5″ high.

  10. Having just finished the video (I was halfway through when I made my jovial jesting comment about the laser saws), and I’m both blown away by the quality of this project, but almost equally impressed by the laser itself. I’ve already thrown a link to the video into the slack channel for our maker space, I’m hoping to convince the rest of the membership that it’s a tool worth getting for us.

  11. Being a humble retiree, I would use the waste you are holding at 4:19 for an art piece, but that’s just me. Very impressive project, but laser stuff is beyond me. The only laser work I can handle is like when I had my kids chase the red dot around the room.

  12. You could heat an old traditional cast iron “sad iron” (crazy name btw) in a fire, and thus you are absolutely fine because it’s not a power tool.

  13. Hi David, love the laser work I own a 900×600 bed co2 100w. Absolutely amazing to see pros using them more.

Quick question are your books available as pdf? I have all my books on my tablet in the shop so would be very interested in pdf

  14. Stunning work, Dave! It really turned out amazing!!! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

  15. I just bought a Thunder Bolt laser. As soon as i learn Lightburn, I will definitely want to try something like this! I did manage to cut a square last night! 😂 I think I may need to buy a more clamps!😁
